Iowa fines Golden Grain Energy $10,000 for fish kill

December 16, 2013 |

In Iowa, the state’s department of natural resources has fined Golden Grain Energy $10,000 for discharging orange, iron-laden cooling water that was responsible for killing fish in Cheslea Creek in August. The creek feeds into tributaries that eventually reach the Winnebago River but only about a mile of the creek was affected and the discharge did not reach Big Black Lake.
