In Thailand, the amount of ethanol produced from cassava is expected to double to 3 million tonnes in 2014. The Ministry of Commerce will allocate over USD$300m to manage an income plan for next season.
“If the new government chooses not to implement the income guarantee plan next year, ethanol producers could still purchase fresh cassava root directly from farmers at a lower price [than the guaranteed price],” said energy secretary Suthep Liumsirijarern.
