Hawaii PUD approves Hu Honua biomass electrical generation project

In Hawaii, the Honolulu Civil Beat reports that the Hawaiian state Public Utilities Commission issued a ruling covering two issues. The immediate issue was the approval of the Hu Honua, biomass to electricity project in Pepeekeo.

The second issue was that as part of the Hu Honua approval, HELCO was given four months to submit a plan dealing with wasting renewable energy supplied to HELCO’s grid, as well as reducing electrical rates. According to the article, residents of the island of Hawaii are paying four times the national average rate for electricity.
