GDF Suez Energy UK signs third PPA with SITU UK
In the United Kingdom, GDF Suez Energy UK has signed a third long-term power purchase agreement with SITA UK. The latest PPA is for electricity produced from a 34 MW energy-from-waste facility which is to be built at Severnside, South Gloucestershire. The PPA will allow GDF SUEZ Energy UK, a dedicated business-to-business energy supplier, to purchase the renewable electricity and Levy Exemption Certificates generated by the facility for a period of 15 years, starting in 2016 when the facility is scheduled to open.
The energy-from-waste facility will treat approximately 400,000 tonnes per annum of municipal and commercial waste that would otherwise be destined for landfill. SITA UK will build and operate the facility on behalf of the West London Waste Authority.
