Pakistani Economic Co-ordination Committee to approve upfront tariff for bagasse based power plants

In Pakistan, the Business Recorder was informed by sources close to the Water and Power Minister that the cabinet’s Economic Co-ordination Committee is expected to approve a security agreement regarding upfront tariffs. The agreement is to be signed by sugar mills utilizing power plants burning bagasse.

According to the article, the sugar mills have the capacity to produce more than 2GWe. Historically, the sugar mills are operated between the months of November through April, when the rest of Pakistan’s electrical production is at its lowest ebb.
