Biodiesel margins squeezed after blending credit expiry

January 15, 2014 |

In Iowa, Iowa State University/CARD’s biodiesel margins database shows that just 10 days after the expiry of the biodiesel blending credit, margins slipped to 4 cents per gallon from the 59 cents per gallon registered on the last day of 2013. When the tax credit expired at the end of Dec. 2011, margins remained above 30 cents per gallon during the entire month of January, however, meaning that the loss of tax credit isn’t the only reason behind crushed margins.
