Tanzanian villagers concerned about corruption of compensation funds

January 15, 2014 |

In Tanzania, villagers negatively impacted by the end of Sun Biofuels are accusing the local administration of pocketing some of the compensation that was meant for those who lost their land due to the failed biofuel project. Rather than getting cash in hand, the compensation money is to be used for local development projects with about a quarter of that supposedly going to project monitoring and evaluation work. Villagers complain that the project funding process hasn’t been at all transparent.
