RIN prices soar without real reason behind it

In Illinois, RIN prices are soaring unexpectedly with Friday’s 2013 ethanol RIN prices up 10 cents over the day before, roughly the same as those for 2014 compliance. Biodiesel RINs for 2014 were even up as high as 54.5 cents despite the uncertainty over whether the $1 per gallon tax credit will be renewed. The reasons for the unexpected rally were unclear, but biodiesel was the driver.
