Grazing animals help counteract loss of biodiversity

In Switzerland, grazing animals help to counteract the loss of biodiversity caused by fertilizing grassland ecosystems, according to a recent study performed at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow, and Landscape Research (WSL) and the University of Zurich. Because grading herbivores tend to munch on taller plant species, smaller plants are able to reach the light supply. Increased biodiversity can assist an ecosystem in combating disasters like floods or droughts.
