UAE researchers file patent on new biodiesel production technology

March 26, 2014 |

In the UAE, researchers from UAE University have filed a US patent application on a new process they have developed to turn lamb fat into biofuel while preserving the lamb meat for consumption. They claim the lamb meat can then be marketed as “low fat”.  The new processes begins by feeding lamb meat, though potentially other kinds of animal meat as well, into a machine that then pumps heated carbon dioxide into the meat, separating out the fat. The fat is then treated with enzymes to create methyl esthers.
