Hot slides from ABLC’s opening day

April 22, 2014 |

On ABLC’s opening morning, here were some top slides from the company presentations on the topic of global green growth.

1. Inbicon’s biomass refineries.

Inbicon was touting the flexibility of its cellulosic ethanol and power production system,. We found this one particularly poignant, given that Nature published a study critiquing the emissions associated with cellulosic ethanol, while eliminating the consideration of lignin for renewable power. Here’s Inbicon’s use of lignin for combined heat and power is well in evidence.

6. LanzaTech product diversification

At ABLC, generally we hear about molecules that are nearing commercialization — companies are generally eager to avoid creating an impression that have diversion of focus on near-term commercial goals by having too many products in the active development pipeline. But several of the top companies do in fact have very strong and broad portfolios of molecules that their organisms can generate — that have commercial prospects. Here’s LanzaTech profiled a total of 20 high-value molecules that their process has demonstrated so far.
