Small-scale coconut biodiesel powering Fiji villages cheaper than diesel

May 6, 2014 |

In Fiji, small-scale coconut biodiesel producers are able to retail biodiesel at a discount compared to fossil diesel. Biodiesel is going for F$2.45 per liter, compared to F$2.80 per liter for diesel. The first facility was opened in 2010 and produced 520 liters of oil per day, but now two other trial sites are also operating. The diesel is used for household lighting in the villages.
