Swedish EcoEnergy Africa Invests $500 million in new Tanzanian Sugar and Ethanol Facility

In Tanzania, Agro EcoEnergy, a subsidiary of Swedish EcoEnergy Africa AB, has invested $550 million to develop a sugarcane plantation and facility to produce sugar, ethanol and electricity for the Tanzanian market. The project, set up as Bagamoyo EcoEnergy, is estimated to produce 10 million liters of ethanol and 130,000 tons of sugar every three years. It is hoped that the project will help Tanzania to significantly reduce its sugar and oil imports.
