Biofuels Digest Index revised: SYNM, BIOF out; DYAI, ABGB, EVGN, DSM in
The Biofuels Digest Index has been rebalanced for the year. Previously, Verenium (VRNM) had dropped from the Index due to the merger with BASF. Now, Syntroleum (SYNM) drops from the index with the asset purchase of its Dynamic Fuels assets by Renewable Energy Group (REG). Also, we dropped Biofuel Energy (BIOF) from the Index as the company has exited the renewable fuels space.
To replace these stocks, we have added Abengoa, which is now nearing commercialization of its cellulosic ethanol technology at Hugoton, Kansas; DSM (DSM.AS), which has increasingly focused on a biobased strategy; Dyadic (DYAI), which we expect to become a fully reporting SEC company this year; and Evogene (EVGN), which completed a successful US IPO late last year and is now listed on the NYSE. At the same time, we have rebalanced the weightings in the index to reflect the recent surge in ethanol equities.
The Index has tracked the bioeconomy since August 27, 2007. Stocks are weighted to reflect market cap, and also the extent to which diversified industrial companies are focused on a biobased strategy.
