Jamaica looking to produce ethanol for domestic market

June 30, 2014 |

In Jamaica, the local industry is exploring the dedication of 1 million metric tons of cane to hydrous ethanol production with the intention of supplying the domestic market. Doing so would produce about 70 million liters, about half of the capacity of Petrojam’s ethanol dehydration unit and slightly more than the domestic demand of 17 million gallons. The country is currently the third largest importer of US ethanol after Brazil and Canada.
