In Canada, Biofuelwatch is calling on the Convention on Biological Diversity to “focus on biofuel subsidies as perverse incentives, not on the chimera of ‘effective standards’. CBD needs to provide guidance to international community, not waste time discussing the meaning of terms used in biofuel discussion.” It claims that since EU sustainability standards don’t deal with indirect effects or social impacts and that the Conference of the Parties to the CBD must call for abolishing all biofuels subsidies rather than focusing on making effective standards.
