Germany’s 2015 rapeseed crop hit hard by pests after pesticide ban

October 6, 2014 |

In Germany, following the European-wide ban on a predominant neonicotinoids pesticide used in oilseeds, the country’s rapeseed crop has suffered unusually high levels of infestation and damage. Production is expected to fall in 2015 as a result but estimates of the damage have not yet been released. Seedlings may have a difficult time passing the winter following root damage due to the insects.
