Swiss supermarket chain buys more than 50 Scania biodiesel trucks

October 29, 2014 |

In Switzerland, supermarket chain Coop is taking delivery of more than 50 Scania biodiesel trucks as part of an ambitious plan to become carbon neutral by 2023. The chain says the move has nothing to do with cultivating a green image and everything to with efficiency and making a difference in the world.

Coop’s Head of Logistics Josef Zettel says the company has set itself an ambitious target – to become CO2 neutral by 2023 in all areas that it can influence. “Coop’s goods transport has an important role in this,” he says. “It amounts to 20 percent of Coop’s total CO2 emissions. Biodiesel is an important tool that can be implemented with minimal impact on our transport framework.”
