Hawaiian Electric Co. set to sign biodiesel purchase contract by year’s end

In Hawaii, the Hawaiian Electric Co. informed the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission that it plans to sign an agreement before the end of the year with a biodiesel developer for supply of 5 million gallons of the fuel per yea for three years for use in its two Oahu power plants. The supply could come as soon as November 2015. HECO received proposals from biodiesel supplies through May 31 but the winning company has yet to be announced.
