Oregon company producing ethanol from dry fruit byproduct

November 19, 2014 |

In Oregon, Summit Foods is making ethanol out of fruit juice water, a byproduct from its dry fruit businesses. The idea came from trying to find a way to get rid of the waste that was too expensive to dispose in the sewer and wasn’t accepted by the dump. The company’s aim is to produce millions of gallons of ethanol annually. Currently it sells its ethanol to Sequential Biofuels and to race car drivers.
