UK DEFRA says just 0.8% of arable land used for bioenergy crops in 2013

November 26, 2014 |

In the UK, the Dept. for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs says about 51,000 hectares were dedicated to bioenergy crops in 2013, a total of about 0.8% of arable land. About 42,000 hectares, roughly 80% of the total, were used for producing biofuels for road transport, which produced about 787,000 metric tons of feedstock. This year, about 17% of the corn produced nationally was used as feedstock for biogas.
