UNICA says hard for ethanol to compete with $60 oil as nine more mills shut

December 19, 2014 |

In Brazil, UNICA says that ethanol and all renewable energies become a challenge with oil at $60 per barrel, but that the choice of ethanol over gasoline has to be about more than just price. The ethanol industry is suffering from a lack of confidence, which has partly led to more mills mothballing. Nine more mills are expected to stay shut for the next harvest, bringing mothballed production to about 20% of installed crushing capacity.
