Two of five peer reviewers think EPA’s emission factor on palm oil exagerated

December 25, 2014 |

In Washington, two out of five peer reviewers disagreed with the EPA’s emission factor of 95 tons of CO2 per hectare lobbed against palm oil due to potential peat destruction, stating that the EPA likely overestimated the emissions. The emission factor lowers the GHG emission savings of palm oil to below the EPA’s 20% savings threshold. The other three agreed the factor was appropriate.
