December 29, 2014 |

The IEA Bioenergy Task 39 Group released its end of year newsletter, which included a comprehensive  country profile for biofuels activity in The Netherlands, authored by John Neeft, Elke van Thuijl and Oliver May . The overview includes images and descriptions of the TNO, ECN, Algae Park and Bioprocess Pilot Facility (BPF) pilot plants,  Examples of Industrial Biofuels Programs including KLM, DSM and Dyadic, international collaboration programs with Canada, Brazil and within Europe, Governmental programs & public private partnerships, Biofuels production, and Netherlands Background and policy.“ Following the EU-RED, a specific target for a 10% share of renewable energy in transport is to be achieved by 2020. This target will mainly be met through the use of liquid biofuels, such as biodiesel and bioethanol. The main driver for biofuel policies in the Netherlands is to decrease GHG emissions from transport. For the Dutch government, guaranteeing the sustainability of biofuels for transport and biomass for electricity and heat production is an important condition of promoting the use of bioenergy in the Netherlands,” the authors note.
