Iowa derailment left 3 cars in the Mississippi, 3 burning and 8 leaking ethanol

February 5, 2015 |

In Iowa, the rail accident near Dubuque had 14 of 15 cars that derailed carrying ethanol, more than the three reported previously after the accident first happened. Three of the ethanol cars caught fire while three fell into the Mississippi River and another eight are leaking. An unknown number of the railcars were DOT-111s, the older model railcars under scrutiny for failing to meet safety specification.
