Wisconsin ethanol exports increase 18% as Canadian demand increases

In Wisconsin, ethanol exports have increased 18% according to numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Trade, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. The increases have totaled an export value of over $250 million dollars and have driven Wisconsin’s export totals to an all time high. Exports to Canada, the top buyer of Wisconsin agricultural products, jumped 14 percent to $1.7 billion with help of an 18 percent increase in ethanol shipments, the DATCP data showed.

“Despite Big Oil’s relentless attacks on Wisconsin’s farmers and producers the ethanol industry continues to help drive our economy,” said Joshua Morby Executive Director of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance. “Biofuels are a key part of Wisconsin’s international trade growth. In 2014 the increase in ethanol exports alone was valued at $31 million dollars. That’s real money going to real Wisconsin families.”

Wisconsin ethanol producers also exported more than 500 million pounds of dried distillers grains (DDGs), valued at more than $51 million. DDGs are a high protein co-product of the ethanol process used for animal feed.
