New Zealand community pushing for bioenergy solutions to red algal blooms

In New Zealand, residents of have formed an environmental watchdog group to find solutions for cleaning up Lake Karapiro that is suffering from red algal blooms. One of the solutions presented to the Waikato Regional Council is to harvest the algae as feedstock for a digester, teaming with Waipa District Council and Mighty River Power to set up a potential trial project.
