Kansas House bill would add 4.5 cent tax to every gallon of ethanol produced

April 2, 2015 |

In Kansas, a bill in the state House of Representatives proposes adding a 4.5 cents per gallon tax on all ethanol produced in the state, a move that ICM says will make the fuel uncompetitive relative to ethanol produced in neighboring states. ICM’s CEO told the House committee on taxation at a hearing recently that the state’s industry already provides over $2 million in real property taxes as well as $100,000 in personal property taxes, $53 million in trucking taxes annually, and 384 direct jobs, with an average salary of $49,000.
