Proposed Oregon bill seeks surety bond in exchange for growing giant cane

In Oregon, a proposed bill in the state’s House would require farmers who wish to grow giant cane to supply the PG&E power plant in Boardman would have to post a $1 million surety bond with the Oregon Invasive Species Council to cover potential clean up should the invasive species get out of control. That bond is only for up to 400 acres of cane grown however, with an additional $25,000 required for every additional acre. The Boardman power plant would require 320 acres worth of cane per day.
