Swiss company stalls $428 million investment in South African canola biodiesel

April 13, 2015 |

In South Africa, Swiss-based PhytoEnergy International has halted development of its $428 million canola biodiesel plant until the South African government puts laws into place to promote the fuel. The blending mandate is meant to come into place on Oct. 1 but the required position paper hasn’t been published yet, giving the project developer pause. The project could be online by Q3 2017, producing 400,000 tons of biodiesel annually.
