Uttar Pradesh may allow mills to use cane juice for ethanol production

In India, Uttar Pradesh’s government is exploring the option to allow mills to produce ethanol straight from cane juice rather than just from molasses in an effort to help boost efficiency and reduce the financial burden on mills due to lower sugar production. Currently the state produces about 650 million liters of ethanol annually but that figure could go up significantly if juice was diverted away from sugar production.
