Oakbio announces ecoli model for butanol production

May 14, 2015 |

In California, Oakbio announced the development of a novel Escherichia coli (ecoli) based microbe model for the production of n-Butanol and other chemical products. This new waste carbon conversion platform uses the same expression system used in Oakbio’s successful CO2 capture and conversion system. Unlike other ecoli based systems the Oakbio model requires no antibiotics or promoters in order to produce the target molecule.

This new model has utility as a high efficiency method for converting waste stream carbon into n-Butanol, as well as serving as an expression system for other chemical targets. The addition of this model increases greatly the number of feedstocks which Oakbio can convert to n-Butanol, including biomass and wastewater.
