Duff.jpgIn Rhode Island, longtime DOE leader and former Chief Engineer Brian Duff, died after a short battle with leukemia.

Duff was diagnosed early this spring with an aggressive terminal cancer and he decided not to pursue treatment, according to friends.  He spent his last days at his brother’s beach house in Rhode Island where he was accompanied by his immediately family. He died early this morning. In the near future, his family said they will arrange for a memorial service for him in Colorado.

Duff was a long-time Digesterati, and was on stage at the 2012 ABLC with an address on the progress towards scale of a number of DOE-related deployments, and was named to the Top 100 People in Bioenergy for 2013.

In 2013, Episode 6 of the Bioenergy Technologies Office Staff Spotlight video series featured Duff, then Program Manager for Demonstration and Deployment, working on integrated biorefinery activities. The clip “shows his passion and wisdom,” a friend related.
