In Thailand, the government is again looking to offload 13 million metric tons of low quality and rotten rice not fit for human consumption to ethanol producer and animal feed manufacturers. Of the total, about 2 million tons are rotten. The government tried to do so before but the price offered by industry was too low. It is expected that if the government succeeds in offloading the stocks that prices for human-grade rice could shoot up by as much as a third to prices not seen sine 2013.
