Arbitrage between Brazilian and US ethanol supports major trade shift

In Brazil, ethanol exports to the US are suddenly in high demand after the EPA announced higher quotas for advanced biofuels, with D5 advanced biofuel RINs seeing a 30-cent spread above D6 corn-based ethanol RINs. As such, companies are in a rush to import Brazilian ethanol with as much as 10.6 million gallons contracted in the past two weeks.
