China voters mull support for Fiberight waste-to-energy project (China, Maine, that is)

In Maine, the Board of Selectmen for the township of China are looking at supporting the Fiberight waste-to-energy project planned for Hampden, Maine, when their trash contract with Penobscot Energy Recovery Company expires in 2018. The town said that the Municipal Review Committee, which coordinates activities between 187 towns that send trash to the PERC facility in Orrington, has recommended that towns work with Fiberight, especially as the Maine township said that its costs with PERC will soar after thir contarct expires, which requires a miniumum trash commitment. The Fiberight project does not require a trash minumum tonnage. Town Manager Dan L’Heaureux told CentralMaine.com that Fiberight is circulating draft contracts in fall 2015, and decisions will have to be made in 2016 on working with Fiberight, as feedtock acquisition must be settled before plant construction can begin.
