German biodiesel industry up in arms as government reverses on blending volumes

August 17, 2015 |

In Germany, the government has lowered the required biodiesel blending volumes, saying that the GHG emissions reductions resulting from the fuels are high enough to lower the actual volume required to meet the GHG targets. Biodiesel producers are protesting the shift in policy, saying it’s paradoxical to reduce the volumes blended when the environmental peformance of the fuels are better than anticipated. Production reached 1.078 million metric tons during the first half of 2015, up from 894,000 tons during the same period in 2014.
