Malama wins Certified Biobased Product Label for Studio BioFoam, Pacific BioFoam

August 30, 2015 |

In California, Malama Composites, Inc. has earned the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product Label and is identified for Federal preferred purchasing for its Studio BioFoam and Pacific BioFoam products.

The USDA Certified Biobased Product Label verifies that the product’s amount of renewable bio-based ingredients meets or exceeds levels set by USDA.   Biobased products are finished or intermediate materials composed in whole or in significant part of agricultural, forestry, or marine ingredients.

Malama Composites Chairman and CEO, David Saltman said, “Studio BioFoam is the only bio-based rigid urethane foam in the world to achieve this certification.  It is a zero emission material that uses vegetable polyols and water as the sole blowing agent.   It hand sculpts beautifully and machine shapes accurately, a proof that eco-friendly products can outperform petroleum-based alternatives.”

Meanwhile, Saltman added, “”Pacific BioFoam has achieved the highest bio-content of any commercially available two-part urethane foam system on the market today.  It achieves this with competitive structural performance and insulation value, making it ideal for insulated packaging, consumer appliances, refrigerated containers, hot tubs, architectural moldings, formwork, and automotive applications.”

All bio-based amount claims are verified by independent labs and monitored by the USDA.   Consumers may feel secure in the accuracy of the bio-based amount and be empowered in making better informed purchasing decisions.
