RIN production soars in July but cellulosic production dominated by bio-CNG and LNG

September 3, 2015 |

In Washington, the Environmental Protection Agency says more than 1.59 billion RINs were produced in July, up from 1.56 billion RINs generated in June. Cellulosic RINs were up in July, with 12.97 million RINs produced compared to 12.41 million RINs reported in June, both of which are a far cry from just the 8 million or 9 million cellulosic RINs produced monthly at the start of the year. The vast majority of cellulosic RINs don’t come from ethanol, which have totaled just 1.3 million this year so far, but from renewable LNG and CNG.
