Brazilian ethanol industry divided on issue of direct sales to retailers

September 8, 2015 |

In Brazil, the idea that mills could sell ethanol directly to filling stations rather than via fuel distribution systems as is currently the case is a topic still under debate by the sugar industry. Some doubt if there would be much additional benefit for mills by cutting out the middle man while others feel retailers should at least have the right to buy directly if they want to. Changing the market so that direct sales could take place would require legislative changes, not an easy or quick fix in the Brazilian market.
