In Indonesia, Sinar Mas Group is looking at opportunities to invest in the production of bioplastics from palm oil. The company currently has two biodiesel plants that use about 800,000 metric tons of crude palm oil annually but believe diversification into other products could be a good move for the business. The government is currently offering incentives for those setting up innovative process industries for agriculture and forestry including tax exemptions, which is triggering the company’s potential interest in expanding into bioplastics.
