Argentina boosts ethanol price for sugarcane but cuts for corn

September 10, 2015 |

In Argentina, the government has again raised the price blenders must pay for sugarcane ethanol for September, now to $1.04 per liter, about 2% higher than August and below the monthly maximum price increase of 5%. On the other hand, corn-based ethanol prices were cut slightly by 1.4% to 79 cents per liter. With concerns running high that inflation this year could top 30%, producers are worried the prices set by the government won’t cover production costs. June ethanol production was up more than 22% in June on the year at 74,464 metric tons while consumption for the month hit 64,446 tons, up nearly 23% from June 2014.
