New Australian sugar marketing bill threatening A$75 million Maryborough ethanol investment

September 21, 2015 |

In Australia, the proposed ethanol distillery at the Maryborough sugar mill is on hold until the new sugar marketing bill is decided. If the sugar marketing bill is passed, it will mean the mill will become a toller for farmers and have little control over the end destination of the cane it crushes, therefore making the investment unviable. If the bill that is meant to be presented to Parliament on Dec. 5 is not passed, then the A$75 million investment may well move forward.
