Most Vietnamese ethanol plants mothballed due to policy weakness

October 7, 2015 |

In Vietnam, four of the country’s six cassava-based ethanol plants have been mothballed because of delays in implementation of the national E5 blending policy mixed with high cassava prices that make ethanol production unviable. The blending policy is voluntary and roll out is too far away for fuel retailers to put much effort into implementation. The prime minister has recently sought to encourage more uptake at the pump but that has been slow going as well.
