Canola no longer for biodiesel in New Zealand but for premium food oils

In New Zealand, the former Solid Energy biodiesel plant in South Canterbury was bought in 2012 by a consortium of companies looking to produce food-grade oil rather than fuel. Now that company, Pure Oil NZ, is looking into niche high-quality markets processing local canola in the same way as olive oil, and will begin offering cold press virgin oils for specialty markets. Using canola for biodiesel is not seen as viable, with food oils providing much higher value.
