POET Iowa biorefinery using 1,500 tons of wood waste in distillery process

October 13, 2015 |

In Iowa, the POET Biorefining ethanol plant in Chancellor will begin receiving up to 1,500 tons of ground up tree waste from a tree dump in Spencer that will then be co-fired in the facility’s boiler to provide power for the distillation process. The company already uses biogas produced from landfill waste in its processes as well as burns damaged shipping pallets. The company is also demonstrating innovative ways of dealing with the results of a recent bird flu outbreak that results in destroying the sick birds while also producing energy.
