October 14, 2015 |

In France, a joint report by the French Académie des Technologies and Académie de l’Air et de l’Espace says aviation biofuels are still a long way from being commercial with the main barriers continuing to be production at scale that is competitive with fossil-based A1 jet fuel. The report says vegetable oil-based hydrotreated esters and fatty acids (HEFA) are likely to be the only technological option that is also economically viable in the near future.
