Environmental Working Group stands up for Rep. Peter Welch in RFS debate

November 16, 2015 |

In Washington, the corn ethanol industry’s attacks on Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) over his efforts to reform federal biofuels policies are “completely outrageous and smack of desperation,” says Scott Faber, EWG’s senior vice president of government affairs.

No one has done more to accelerate the development of biofuels that actually reduce greenhouse gas emissions than Rep. Welch,” said Faber. “The inconvenient truth is that corn ethanol is worse for the environment than gasoline and that corn ethanol stands in the way of truly green biofuels. It’s no wonder the corn ethanol lobby is recklessly attacking Peter Welch for supporting a bipartisan solution to our broken biofuels policies. Now is the time to end corn ethanol’s chokehold on our fuel supply and pave the way for biofuels that actually meet our energy needs and help address the climate crisis.”
