Brazilian hydrous ethanol demand remains high despite higher prices

November 24, 2015 |

In Brazil, hydrous ethanol demand continues to soar despite higher prices brought on by said demand increase. October consumption rose to 1.75 billion liters, up 45% on the year and 7% higher than in September. Hydrous ethanol prices were about 67% of gasoline’s in the six largest consuming states, representing about 85% of national consumption, but in November that has jumped to 72%. Typically 70% is the threshold when drivers start switching back to gasoline. Higher gasoline prices have helped to support demand.
