Navy’s Great Green Fleet to launch in late January

December 15, 2015 |

In the California, the Navy’s Great Green Fleet will take to the seas in late January six years after it was first announced. The Navy didn’t reveal what blending level of biofuels would power the fleet to be led by the carrier John C. Stennis, only that it would behave as any other fleet in the Navy operating in confined waters as well as open seas. The Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise was chosen to demonstrate the use of biofuels because the region is where the “tyranny of distance” is most felt, where few oil producers are and everything must be transported long distance, providing an opportunity for countries in the region to supply biofuels for the fleet.
